Eilean Donan Castle

With history dating back to the seventh century, there ar no prizes for idea that there are ghosts that purportedly haunt its grounds.
Eilean Donan Famous for its look in several films, including the Highlander. Eilean Donan Castle was originally built in thirteenth Century (by the kindred Mackenzie and kindred Macrae) to defend the world from incursive Vikings WHO controlled most of Northern Scotland between 800 and 1266 AD. It is believed that there had been a settlement on this island since the late 7th Century, when the Irish Saint, Bishop Donan is thought to possess formed atiny low community here.
In the early 14th Century Henry Martyn Robert the Bruce was doggo here for a time. In 1331 Randolph, Earl of eel had fifty men dead here and had their headless heads place on show on the castle walls.
The castle was a stronghold for the supporter rebellions throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. In 1719 the castle was destroyed by the English Government for its role within the uprisings. The castle was being garrisoned by 46 Spanish troopers WHO were in support of the Jacobites, when the castle withstood serious bombardment for 3 straight days, leaving the castle in absolute ruin.

The castle was in ruin for more than two hundred years till the island was bought by Lt commissioned military officer John Macrae-Gilstrap in 1911. He proceeded to rebuild the castle over the next twenty years, until it was erst completed in 1932 to original specifications, Bringing back the castle to its former glory.The castle today is as it would have appeared back within the seventeenth – early eighteenth centuries, and as it absolutely was when it was completed in 1932.
